Keeping Pets and Families Together:

Increasing Pet Equity In Housing

In 2024, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors adopted Keeping Pets and Families Together: Increasing Pet Equity in Housing, a motion directing County departments to evaluate how to expand pet-inclusive rent-stabilized housing in unincorporated Los Angeles County. The motion called for a focused review of barriers affecting renters with pets, including pet rent, pet deposits, and weight limits.

This directive produced a comprehensive feasibility study outlining practical policy options to increase pet-friendly housing, reduce shelter surrenders tied to housing insecurity, and support families who depend on their pets for stability and companionship.

The feasibility study is now available. Read it here.
